Ideas for First 2 minutes

Storyboard –

·         A few main credits before any action; no names of actors/actresses though

·         Instant extreme close up of main actor’s eyes (silence)

·         Type of shot changes to a POV shot with the focus being on a picture frame with a young boy and girl as the picture (silence)

·         Cut to a canted angle, close up shot of the daily newspaper with a headline which reads along the lines of; Shock Suicide, then a slightly distinct picture of the suicide victim (silence)

·         Switching back to the POV shot and a TV screen with a news reporter announcing the suicide (diegetic sound of reporter speaking but faint)

·         Closing in on the TV screen with the sound becoming louder and the awareness of fans behind the reporter placing flowers and banners outside a house

·         Mid shot of main actor sat on a sofa still looking down at the frame in his hands

·         Fade into the title sequence

·         Change of scenery; graffiti walls, upbeat music

·          Establishing and long distance shot of a boy gradually walking towards the camera; one closer his name appears

·         Cut to another actor opening the door to the one previously seen; his name then appears

·         Group shot of 3 boys in a living room with instruments

·         Last shot of the actress at the living room door saying something along the lines of ‘hey boys, need tea or a band member?’

  1. I think that we should definitely move away from the idea of trying to put too much in to the first two minutes and should finish at the point of the boy walking along. Still definitely include the flash back element though as its important to show that the plot goes back in time; we want the audience to know that the film would be showing the 'life of the band’ from the beginning, but adding anything else other than the simple walk and titles will be too much?

  2. Yes, I do agree after discussion in class. From going through the newsreport alone it was clear that any more action would take at least a minute longer anyway - only showing, briefly, the boy walking should be enough for the audience to understand the flashback concept.
I do think that only 3 titles/credits, at the most, should appear though as I personally found from the research that I did, I'd begin to get aggitated if any more were shown.
