the world of mod rock. It doesn’t happen easily, and something that once seemed so unrealistic but the ultimate dream eventuality becomes reality but, not without its troubled and scaring consequences. The band ‘Nostalgia’ began in ‘Rupert Dartmoore’ mum’s living room, when he and his best friend ‘Todd Simmons’ realised that together, with Rupert’s unique vocals and Todd’s matchless guitar skills, they sounded like they could be on a record with their idols of the time; all that was needed, was the rest of the band.
The story opens in 1983, and we join the boys as they start their hunt to find various other band members, they find some and the only thing missing is a bass guitarist. This is where the character ‘Jewls Dartmoore’ comes in; she is the younger sister of Rupert and she is desperate to be in the band. She is shy about it at first which is different from her kind but outgoing character, but has a serious talent for playing. She idolises her brother, and gradually shows she has a great interest in his best friend ‘Todd’ too but, more than anything, she just wants to be able to play in a band.
Rupert has major reservations about letting her into the band; the audience throughout the whole film are positioned to feel as though his objections are because he in some way jealous of her talent or because he doesn’t want his 'little' sister being a part of his near coming fame. However this is not the case at all as his only objections are for the fact that he cares so much for her. He know she has great talent and is proud of her but he is not willing to let her be exposed to the alcohol and drugs that come with the underground scene he has begun to know quite well. He knows that if they go on to find success it will only get worse and he does not want her to all in to this trap.
This however is the unfortunate inevitability. When Rupert finally goes against his original instinct and lets her play for one night at a big gig they had secured, it's the gig that an agent happens to be at. He wants to sign them and take them from the underground to success, and its Jewls being in the band that makes them stand out.
The rest of the film them goes on to show the gradual and then sudden success of 'Nostalgia', as the band not only discover the music industry of the 80's, but themselves. The inevitability of the story however is that the more success 'Nostalgia' gain, as they become one of Britain's best loved bands, the more Jewels becomes trapped in the world her brother feared the most. She spirals out of control but the news papers at the time can't get enough of her, she’s everything they want in a female star and her at first romantic and discovering relationship that blossoms with Todd, turns it to a dangerous and publicised relationship. Feuds with her brother also begin and he of course is only trying to help her, but the press present him as the reason for her downfall and he himself begins to believe it.

The movie begins comical and the coming of age part is more exciting than daunting, but as fame arrives the mood of the movie changes. It becomes darker and the realisation of how a dream can be a nightmare becomes stark reality. The fame and dangerous lifestyle become too much for Jewels, and she commits suicide. This is the point where the movie begins. Its 1989. A dishevelled young man, looking older than his years is shown on screen, ‘Rupert Dartmoore’; he looks worn and sadness it clearly present in his eyes. He is shown surrounded by silence, but gradually in the distance a faint voice is heard, it grows louder and it cross cuts to a news report. This report is used to tell of Jewles’ death and after the report is over, the main story begins as time rewinds to 1983.
News Report Ideas
Julie Dartmoore from the hit cult band 'Nostalgia' has died. The band found fame when she joined in 1983 but now it's believed she had died from a suspected overdose at her home in east London. 'mark Rodgers' is at the scene.
The scenes here are to be expected, [the following 'Nostalgia' had were nothing like many British bands had ever experienced], there's been tears even the occasional break out of song, but many here say that they feared this day and knew it would come.
The drug and alcohol culture that surrounds bands and the kids of today is no secret, and it's also no secret that Jewls, as Julie was known to her fans, had fallen in to this trap.
Now though, she has taken it one step to far and has died from a suspected overdose of drugs. However what she has taken and weather or not an overdose was intentional, which some say may be the sad truth, still remains unclear.
Another thing too that is unclear, is how her older brother, fellow band member and lead singer 'Rupert Dartmoore' will react, natural sadness is of course to be expected but lately there have been reports of their feuds and it's no secret that he originally opposed the joining of Jewls to his band, some say for fear of how the culture she would be exposed to, would affect her.
Version 2 (Not giving away that he wanted to protect her)
